Hillary Clinton:
Right here over 200 Hoosiers built parts that guided our military’s smart bombs to their targets.
They were good jobs, but now, they’re gone to China.
And now America’s defense relies on Chinese spare parts.
George Bush could have stopped it, but he didn’t.
As your president, I will fight to keep good jobs here, and to turn this economy around.
I’m Hillary Clinton and I approve this message because American workers should build America’s defense.
I'm giving credit to Keith_indy at that blog solely because that's how I stumbled upon this. The real story is after the jump.
Some of you may have clicked on the link to see the blogger's page. If you did, you'd have seen the story being discussed. That the factory in that Indiana-ad wasn't shut down under George W. Bush as Senator Clinton claimed, but that it was shut down and shipped to China under President Clinton. Oh wait, oh no, it's a World Net Daily source! Sort of. Some of it is BS, but.. I checked with some legitimate sources and discovered a few things.
Clinton was introduced by Indiana's Democratic U.S. senator, Evan Bayh, who told the crowd he was deeply disappointed that Congress could not prevent Chinese investors from moving Magnequench's factory to China five years ago.
Bayh said Chinese investors bought the company in 1995 with a promise to keep production of the magnets in the United States, but then backed out on that agreement in 2003.
I'm quoting from Joe Carlson at the Times of Munster Indiana. Carlson also reported this in the same article, dated the 13th of April 2008;
To stop the trend, Clinton proposed a comprehensive review of all of America's military industrial factories with an eye to prevent them from moving. She also proposed creating a task force to prevent industrial espionage.
"The Chinese have a full-court press to steal (industrial secrets) they can't buy from us," Clinton said.
I guess Hillary Clinton is learning from her husband's mistake. The mistake being, of course, to let China buy the factory which helped produce high-grade magnets to make smart bombs! The factory which the Chinese eventually shipped to China. Don't get me wrong, I like me some Bush-bashing too from time to time, but that factory would've never been shipped to China if it hadn't been sold to China in the first place. Is anyone else reminded about NAFTA? Did Clinton privately criticize the sale of this factory to China? Was she skeptical of it? She may say she was if certain outlets get wind of the irony to this ad.
