There are many reasons I can give as to why I like Obama. One of the main things that attracted me to his campaign was the idea that HE isn't going to change my country, I am. The power lies in the reach of my own hand. The idea of personal responsibility is sadly absent from the other campaigns. Hillary is making promises. McCain is...I'm not really sure what McCain is doing.
Americans, too often, want a band aid and a quick fix. So very frequently the campaign making the most false promises sounds like the one who is going to make our lives better. Yet that campaign lets us down when we realize the things they promise can't be done or won't be done.
Community Service has been a way of life for me and when I noticed that Obama's campaign was organizing not only voter registration drives but community service days, I was deeply moved. This is what Empowers people to become invested in the system that can change their lives. Putting some responsibility on the voter is integral to dismantling the thought that our government is supposed to "DO" everything for us. America, to change this nation, we have to DO for ourselves. We can elect the right leaders but the work at holding them accountable and taking care of our daily responsibilities is on us!
For empowering the nation, I'm proud to vote for Barack! This is a campaign driven by the people for the people. Truly. Take a look for yourself and I hope that you feel as I do that this type of inspiration is the right kind. America needs to hope and believe but that hope and belief is as much about a new government as it is about believing that regular Americans can change the way this country works. Sometimes as simply as picking up a broom. I can do at least that and I'm happy to see from Barack's Flickr page that others around the country can as well.
